Labor Day weekend we like to step back and take a longer view of the global economy. We adopted this strategy long ago at A. Gary Shilling & Co when we noticed that CEOs refocused on the coming year after their summer vacations. Add in our view that governments matter far less than the multinational corporations that drive those politicians’ economies – and it is crucial to see the world as CEOs do to get the big picture right. This week we look at China’s explosive investment in human capital, and how it will affect businesses decisions on where to expand – especially in a world where governments increasingly conflict over control of domestically developed technology.
