We apologize for the late letter, but we missed a plane connection Saturday and jet lag did the rest. The delay did allow us to see the House budget passed through committee last night – after the denial last Friday. This is a recurring pattern of big news and then retreat, from the Administration, Congress and trade partners negotiating tariffs. We can only wonder about the scale -- and the reality -- of pledges from the Middle East on investments, plane orders, etc. We woke up last Monday morning in Dublin, set to speak about China’s economy – and, of course, tariffs – at the National Association for Business Economics conference at the Central Bank of Ireland, and looked at our phone to discover that discussions between Bessent, Greer and He Lifeng had dropped levies from embargo inducing levels to merely painful. Needless to say, we had to revise our presentation on the fly. Guess we know how CEOs around the world feel!
