The US economy continued to expand at a pace well above potential growth in the third quarter – running at a 2.2% annual rate by our estimate. That is well below the Atlanta Fed’s current 3.3% GDPNow calculation, but at the top of the range for private sector forecasts. It is slower than the 2.8% averaged in the final ten quarters of the Biden Administration, but would lift the 1.4% average for the first half of 2025 to a 1.7% average over the first three quarters.
